17 athletes to attend the 2018 National Youth Track and Field Championships

The 2018 Legion National Youth Track & Field Championships, will take place in Brandon, Manitoba, from Wednesday, August 8 to Tuesday, August 14, 2018 (Competition - Friday, August 10 to Sunday, August 12). The Legion Youth Track & Field Championships offers competition in the U16 (age 15 and under) & U18 category (age 16 - 17).

Seventeen athletes were selected to the Legion Provincial Team at the Legion Provincial Championships on Fri, Jul 13 - Sat, Jul 14, 2018.

For over fifty years The Royal Canadian Legion has supported Canada’s youth through training and competition in track and field. The Legion National Championships is Canada’s premier and only nationwide competition for the youth and midget category and are truly national in scale as the Legion supports provincial teams from all provinces and territories in Canada. This support is provided exclusively through funding provided by the members of the Legion.

The Royal Canadian Legion, Track and Field program, is divided into two sections - a three-day meet and an educational and technical clinic. In 2007, a coaching academy was also included in the program.

Team Indigenous NL 2020 North American Indigenous Games

Call for Coaches

The Aboriginal Sport and Recreation Circle NL are currently seeking applications from coaches that are interested in volunteer positions with Team Indigenous NL taking part in the 2020 North American Indigenous Games (NAIG). The 2020 Games will be take place in Halifax, NS July 12-19,2020.
The sports that Team Indigenous NL require coaches and assistant coaches for are:
•    Athletics-U14, U16, U19 Born 2006 or later, 2004 or later or 2001 or later
•    Badminton-U16, U19 Born 2004 or later and 2001 or later
•    Basketball-U16, U19 Born 2004 or later or 2001 or later (To be determined)

Athlete Expression of Interest

The Aboriginal Sport and Recreation Circle NL are currently seeking Expressions of Interest from Indigenous youth of Newfoundland Labrador that are interested in participating for Team Indigenous NL (TINL) taking part in the 2020 North American Indigenous Games (NAIG). The location and dates of the 2020 NAIG will be determined by May, 2018.
The athletes that Team Indigenous NL are looking for will be participating in are:

Step 1: If you are already a member of the locker please enter you NCCP # or e-mail and password. If you have forgot your password, or never had one it can be retrieved or created instantly.
Step 2: Once you have successfully entered your username and password - click the "Calendar" tab in the top right corner of the web site. Once you are in the event calendar you can sort it accordingly to find the course you wish to attend. You can filter the calendar by sport and province.
Step 3: Once you have clicked on the event you wish to take, the details will come up on the right side - click on "Register for this event"
If you never taken an NCCP course in any course on the Locker home page click on the link that says "Don't have an account? Create one now!"
Once you have received your NCCP password for the Locker you will be able to register for a course by following steps 2 and 3.

Team NL to compete at the 2017 Legion National Youth Track & Field Championships


NLAA and the Provincial Legion Command selected a team of 17 athletes to represent Newfoundland and Labrador at the 2017 Legion National Youth Track & Field Championships. The NL Team will compete in the Midget (U16) & Youth categories (U18). The NL Legion Team was selected following the Legion Provincial Championships on Fri, Jul 7 - Sat, Jul 8, 2017.

2017 Canada Games Athletics Team Announced

The Newfoundland and Labrador Athletics Association (NLAA) is pleased to announce the Athletics Team that will represent Newfoundland and Labrador at the 2017 Canada Summer Games.

Officials Track & Field Clinic - Throwing Events


NLAA is inviting former track and field athletes and interested parents to attend a free Introduction to Officiating - Throwing Events. The clinics will provide an overview of the different field events and will introduce participants to various tasks performed by officials. The official's clinic will review basic competition rules and best practices for throwing events. The workshop will start indoors and will follow with outside session. Please come prepared with a coat and appropriate footwear. Dress for comfort and light activity.

We encourage parents of athletes involved in track and field, to register for the clinic so you can be of assistance at the meets. Officials play a vital role in ensuring fair competition and assisting athletes to achieve their best.

  • Date: June 10, 2017
  • Location: Pearlgate Track and Field Complex, Mount Pearl
  • Session Starts: 9:30 am - 12:00 noon (arrive between 9:15am and 9:25am)
  • Prerequisite: None
  • Bring pen and paper to take notes.
  • Registration fee: free
  • The clinic is limited to the first 30 entries.
  • Registration deadline: Friday, June 9.

The 2017 Town of Paradise Municipal Awards will be presented during Volunteer Appreciation Week at the Paradise Double Ice Complex.

Nomination Process

Only completed nomination packages will be considered for awards. A complete nomination package includes:
·         Completed Nomination Form, which must include the name and signature of a nominator and a seconder
·         Information on why you are nominating the individual, group, or business, including why he/she/they deserve to be recognized with an award. The information should be provided in a separate, typed document, attached to the nomination form.
Separate nomination packages must be complete if an individual and / or group is being nominated for more than one award category.

What you need to know:

All accomplishments noted in the nomination must have taken place between January 2016 and December 2016.
All Nominees must be current residents (groups or businesses) of the Town of Paradise, and must have resided within the Town for a minimum of six (6) months prior to the deadline for nomination 
The official Nomination Form must be completed and signed by both the Nominator and Seconder, neither of which may be immediate members of the Nominee's family. Separate Nomination Forms and Nominators are required if an individual, group or business is to be nominated for more than one award. 
Information contained on the Nomination Form and attached sheets will be the basis of the Awards Selection Committee's decision. All decisions of the Awards Selection Committee are final. Members of the immediate family of the Awards Selection Committee will not be eligible for awards.  
Residents of the Town of Paradise taking part in relevant activities outside the Town are considered eligible for awards. Volunteer, Youth, and Citizen of the Year will be predominately based on Town activities.
The final decision will take into account the calibre of activities (re: National, Provincial, Regional and local).
