We are Coaches Women in Coaching Grants
Funding now available for the We are coaches program!
The Coaching Association of Canada’s (CAC) Women in Coaching
program, has offered a “We are Coaches” program since 2005 to
assist in meeting its objective of increasing the number of coaching and
leadership opportunities for women at all levels of sport. The
specific objective of We are Coaches is to recruit, train, and retain
women coaches and leaders in community sports by providing encouragement, best
practice models, case studies, templates, and financial support.
This year the
program will include all sports that have CAC approved, NCCP programs in the following
contexts:
·
Community Sport – Initiation
·
Instruction – Beginners
·
Competition – Introduction
Funding up to $1,500* is available for:
·
Sport-specific, women-only, CAC-approved workshops in
the above contexts; and/or
·
The hosting and/or support by NSOs, P/TSOs or clubs,
to women who wish to become Learning Facilitators and/or Evaluators.
“Women-only” training
sessions enable the Learning Facilitator to tackle the specific realities that
women face in coaching, and to create a climate of confidence and openness for
the women that attend. This initiative is not only about training -- it is also
about increasing the number of coaching and
leadership opportunities for women at ALL levels of sport.
To be eligible
for a We are Coaches grant:
·
Sports
applying must have an under-representation of women in coaching;
·
The
workshop must be hosted on, or prior to March 31, 2012;
·
The
host organization must submit a report and participant list with contact information
for research purposes to receive the grant;
·
The
host must submit a copy of a Course Register Form (CRF) to CAC. All successful
participants will be registered in the NCCP database.
* The host organization can receive a grant
of up to $1,500 upon completion of the workshop, submission of the report and
CRF to CAC. Preference will be given to sports hosting workshops with
female learning facilitators.
If your application is approved, you will receive an information package
and templates to assist with the promotion and delivery of the workshop.

SportNL Scholarship Applications Now Available
Sport Newfoundland and Labrador is now accepting
applications for our scholarship/Bursary program. We would appreciate your
assistance in making sure as many athletes, coaches and officials get this
information. Please keep in mind that these scholarship/bursary opportunities
are extremely important to students. If you can take a few minutes to help us
distribute this information it would be greatly appreciated certainly by
SportNL but more importantly by the students who are deserving of this
opportunity.
Please note that the Team Gushue Scholarship valued at
$5000 each for one male and one female student athletes who are currently
attending, or planning to attend, a recognized post-secondary institution will
be chosen from the SportNL Scholarship/Bursary applications.
There are three opportunities for scholarships with just one
application:
- SportNL Scholarship/Bursary (open to post-secondary athletes, coaches, officials) $500
- Frank T. Butler Scholarship (open to post-secondary athletes, coaches, officials) $1000
- Team Gushue Scholarship (open to athletes who are currently attending, or planning to attend, a recognized post-secondary institution) $5000

SportNL Annual Awards 2011
Please note
Sport Newfoundland and Labrador are now accepting nominations from Provincial
Sport Organizations for the 2012 Annual Awards. Awards are considered for an
outstanding event performance or a series of performances in the year of
nomination from January - December, 2011.
Nominations are to be made directly to the Provincial Sport Governing Bodies for final nomination to a category. Sport Governing Bodies will be limited to ONE nomination per category. The selection committee may consider additional nominations if necessary.

The Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity (CAAWS) announced today that it is offering twelve grants of $900 to active girls and women and/or organizations offering sport programs targeted to girls and women. The WISE (Women in Sport Encouragement) Fund was developed in 2004 in response to the ongoing financial need within the sport community. The fund is designed to help support MSO/NSO/PSO sport initiatives in an effort to financially assist members of the sport community in Canada. This fund is provided by CAAWS, with support from Sport Canada. Since 2004, CAAWS has supported 92 individuals and organizations through this fund, dispersing over $82,800 to members of the sport community.
Please feel free to forward this information within your community as you see fit. National and Multisport Service Organizations, as well as their provincial affiliates, clubs, and teams are encouraged to apply. Coaches, officials and sports administrators may also apply. Please note that CAAWS will no longer be accepting applications from individual athletes.
All details related to the WISE Fund submission criteria, application process and deadlines can be found online at www.caaws.ca/e/grants/wise. Applications will only be ccepted between November 21, 2011 and December 9, 2011. Any applications received before or after these dates will not be considered. The 2012 WISE Fund recipients will be announced in February 2012.
