NLAA announces the 2014 Hall of Fame inductees

Four new members have been elected to the provincial Athletics Hall of Fame.  The four will be inducted into the Hall during a reception at the Mount Pearl Track and Field Complex, Thursday, July 17.

Athlete George Crane, builder Murray Fudge, athlete Mark Stender and builder-athlete Jennifer Stender are the four new members named by provincial athletics president Bob Walsh.  Fudge is from Gambo - Gander and the others are from St. John’s.

“All four individuals have outstanding records of achievements and contributions to athletics and will add greatly to the prestige that the Hall of Fame enjoys”, Walsh said.  “There are many others with similar records who deserve to be nominated for hall of fame membership, and interested individuals are urged to submit nominations in the near future.”

Murphy of St. John’s is selection committee chair with Ben Dunne and Don Coaker, both of Mount Pearl, other members of the committee.
This is the tenth induction for the Athletics Hall of Fame.

FISU Scholarship Opportunity

FISU Scholarship Opportunity

This summer, FISU launches the fourth edition the FISU Scholarship program and Canadian Interuniversity Sport is pleased to be accepting nominations for this award. This scholarship program was initiated in 2009 by the Metropolitan City of Daegu as a legacy of the 2003 Daegu Summer Universiade.

CIS will be selecting one male and one female application to put forward to the Pan-American University Sport Federation (ODUPA), who, in turn, will select from amongst all Pan-American applications for final nomination to FISU. Winners of this scholarship will be announced in December 2014 by FISU and the Metropolitan City of Daegu.

For eligibility criteria, scholarship application and more information, please consult the attached documentation.

The deadline for applications to Canadian Interuniversity Sport (canada@universitysport.ca) is August 1st, 2014. Applications that are late or incomplete will not be considered.

Possibilité de bourse de la FISU

Cet été, la FISU lance la quatrième édition de son programme de bourses d'études de la FISU et Sport interuniversitaire canadien est heureux de recueillir les mises en nomination pour ce prix.  Ce programme de bourses a été inauguré en 2009 par la Ville métropolitaine de Daegu, comme legs de l'Universiade d'été de Daegu 2003.

SIC sélectionnera une candidature masculine et une féminine qu'il soumettra à l'Organisme du sport universitaire panaméricain (ODUPA) qui, à son tour, fera son choix parmi toutes les candidatures panaméricaines pour les recommandations finales à la FISU.  Les lauréats seront annoncés en décembre 2014 par la FISU et la Ville métropolitaine de Daegu. 

Pour prendre connaissance des critères d'admissibilité, pour le formulaire de candidature à une bourse, et pour des renseignements additionnels, veuillez consulter la documentation ci-jointe.

La date butoir pour la soumission des candidatures à Sport interuniversitaire canadien (canada@universitysport.ca) est le 1 août, 2014.  Les fiches incomplètes ne seront pas considérées.

Athletes selected to the 2014 Provincial Legion Track and Field Team


The 2014 Provincial Legion Track and Field Championships was held on Friday and Saturday, July 4-5, 2014, Pearlgate Track and Field Complex in Mount Pearl. The Newfoundland and Labrador Athletics Association (NLAA) is pleased to announce that following athletes and staff have been selected to the 2014 Provincial Legion Team:

The Royal Canadian Legion Track and Field program is a nationally sanctioned program culminating in a national track & field camp and national championship for Canadian youth between the ages of 12 and 17. The Royal Canadian Legion Track and Field program is divided into two sections - a two-day meet and an educational and/or technical clinic. In 2007, a coaching academy was also included in the program.

The Royal Canadian Legion, in association with Athletics Canada, will host the 2014 Legion Canadian Youth Track & Field Championships. This year's event will be held at McLeod Athletic Park in Langley British Columbia between 13 - 19 August 2014. Competition dates are set for 15 - 17 August 2014.
